Welcome to the Warm-Up Zone!
Yup, this is where the magic starts.
These are the warm-ups we actually use in session. Some you’ll know, some that might make you go “wait, what?” But trust: they’re all here to get your voice in shape and ready to handle whatever you throw at it.
No fluff, no filler, just your vocal prep with purpose. So grab your water, shake off the day, and let’s do this. You didn’t come here to play small.
GETTING STARTED
Here are some of my favorite tips for warming up:
Relax the face and jaw.
Start by humming.
Focus on breathing LOW.
Start in a comfortable range.
Keep it short & consistent.
Stay hydrated.
Remember that it doesn't have to sound pretty,
it's just a warm up.
Here's an oldie but a goodie from Heinrich Panokfka's The Art of Singing. This vocalise is seriously solid for tightening up your breath control, getting that smooth connection between notes, and sharpening your articulation. It’s not about sounding fancy—it’s about building real technique.
I've included a FREE PDF below for high voices (soprano & tenor) and low voices (alto & baritone).
Pick a vowel that feels good in your voice—‘ah’ if you want warmth, ‘ee’ if you’re going for brightness—and stick with it. Make sure you’re keeping the sound forward—none of that swallowed, back-of-the-throat business. Just sing it clean, stay present, and let the exercise do its job.
